General DO's

  • •Keep incisions clean and dry unless otherwise instructed
  • •Sleep with head/body elevated if recommended (commonly for facial surgeries)
  • •Maintain hydration and a protein-rich diet to support healing
  • •Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments

General DON'T's

  • •Do not remove surgical dressings or drains unless directed
  • •Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, or bending until cleared
  • •No smoking or alcohol during recovery (slows healing and increases complication risk)
  • •Avoid sun exposure to healing scars; always use SPF once wounds are closed

When to Contact Your Surgeon Immediately

  • •Sudden increase in pain, swelling, or bleeding
  • •Fever, chills, or signs of infection at incision site
  • •Shortness of breath, chest pain, or leg swelling
  • •Any unexpected changes in healing
